This guide explains how to create custom filters to explore your interview data and search through interviews based on specific criteria. For example, you can create filters to find interviews where users mentioned specific products, expressed certain sentiments, or discussed particular topics.
Creating a New Filter
Step 1: Define Your Filter
Filter Name: Give your filter a descriptive name (e.g., "Overall Sentiment", "Product Mentions")
Choose a Preset: Select from predefined filter types to get started quickly:
Mentions: Find interviews where specific topics, products, or concepts are discussed
Categories: Classify interviews into predefined groups or categories
Custom: Create your own unique filter criteria
Filter Definition: Describe exactly what you want the filter to identify. Be specific about what you're looking for.
Examples:
For Mentions: "Names of national parks, monuments, or outdoor locations visited"
For Categories: "Enthusiasm for the product idea - assign to 'very enthusiastic', 'neutral/unclear', or 'not enthusiastic'"
Step 2: Advanced Options (Optional)
Input Data Selection: By default, filters analyze the entire interview transcript. You can optionally select specific questions to focus the analysis and reduce the amount of data that is used as input for the filter. If done correctly this can increase the speed and accuracy by preventing irrelevant parts of the transcript from being processed by the AI.
Step 3: Review Sample Results
Before applying the filter to all interviews:
The system generates sample results from 10 randomly selected interviews
Review these samples to ensure the filter is working as expected
Check that the assigned values match your intentions
If not satisfied, go back and refine your filter definition
If satisfied, proceed to generate for all interviews
Step 4: Generate for All Interviews
Once you approve the sample results, the filter will be applied to all interviews in your project. This process may take some time depending on the number of interviews that need to be processed
Editing Existing Filters
You can modify existing filters at any time:
Title changes: Update just the display name without regenerating results
Definition changes: Modify the filter criteria, which will require regenerating results for all interviews
Delete filters: Remove filters you no longer need (this action cannot be undone)
Tips for Better Filters
Be specific and clear in your filter definitions
Use the preset options as starting points
Don't be afraid to experiment with different definitions and iterate with sample generation until you get a definition you like.
Consider focusing on specific questions if your filter targets particular topics.
